Line Up!

I just wanted to share an easy idea that I do in my classroom for lining up students.  I use a cutout with each student's name on it and adhere it to the floor using Contact paper (actually the Dollar Store version).  I use Contact paper because it sticks to the floor, but peels off SO easy and doesn't leave any residue behind.

This is a pic from my classroom last year, when I had an ocean theme.  This year I'll be doing a Zoo theme so I'll show pics of that when I start setting up my room next week.

I have 2 lines of fish because I teach morning and afternoon classes, so I differentiate the fish for each class.  You may also be wondering how I do a line leader, door holder, or caboose.  Well, I just have my line leader come up to the front and lead.  Same with the door holder.  The person whose fish is in front just becomes 3rd in line.  It works great!  No wondering where to stand or racing to the front.  It works really well with my pre-k students because it also helps establish a routine and predictability with them is key!  :)

Get Random!

I was just looking through my pics that I've taken and haven't posted yet to my blog.  Here's a few of them...a bit random, but hopefully you'll find the ideas useful for your classroom!
Here's one of the Valentine's Day activities that my students made for their parents.  I had them tear up construction paper and glue it inside of a heart.

We did a unit about penguins and one of the books we read was Tacky the Penguin.  They made a colorful penguin and dressed him in a tacky shirt to go with the story.

Here's a red-eyed tree frog that we made when we did our Rainforest unit.  First, we read If I Ran the Rain Forest: All About Tropical Rain Forests (Cat in the Hat's Learning Library) and then we made this cute little frog.
More randomness to come as I keep going through my pics!  Have a great day!

Crayon Box Tip

With Back to school quickly approaching (sorry for bringing that up!)  I wanted to share what I do in my classroom with my crayon boxes.  I use Velcro to put the nametags on.  This way I can reuse the crayon boxes year after year (or until they break or become too yucky!).  It may seem like such a simple idea, but I definitely struggled with what to do at first.  I thought of tape or just putting the name plates on the table (it's pre-k so we use tables, not desks).  Then, like magic it came to
Hope this tip helps you out!  Oh, and please excuse my unmanicured nails!
